Roundtable: Body Image Group Chat

Body image is rarely shaped by one big moment, writes Align33 Media — it is shaped by thousands of small messages, spoken and implied, repeated until we stop questioning whether they are true. This roundtable episode brings together four voices to unpack where those messages come from and what it might look like to change the conversation.

Host Robyn Shumer — author, TEDx speaker, and Executive Producer of Storytelling & Podcasting at Align33 Media — sits down with:

  • Dr. Charlotte Markey, psychologist and Rutgers professor whose research focuses on body image, eating behavior, and adolescence, and author of The Body Image Book for Girls, Being You, Adultish, and Body Positive.
  • Oona Hanson, educator and parent coach who helps families navigate diet culture and the messages children receive about food and weight, and author of the Parenting Without Diet Culture newsletter.
  • Mallary Tenore Tarpley, journalist and author of Slip: Life in the Middle of Eating Disorder Recovery, which offers a nuanced look at what recovery can actually mean.
  • Jackie Goldschneider, author, advocate, and television personality whose memoir The Weight of Beautiful shares her experience with anorexia and her path toward recovery.

Together they explore the messages absorbed about bodies, beauty, food, parenting, social media, recovery, and self-worth — and what can be done differently so the next generation does not inherit every rule the current one did. The conversation is produced by Moorea Friedmann, creator of the teen mental-health podcast Balancing Act.
